Maryland US Senate primary poll

There are two polls: one for Maryland residents and one for people who aren't Maryland residents.

Both these polls use Condorcet voting which require voters to rank candidates. The polls close Tuesday at midnight.

I'll create posts within the diary that allow people to make comments about the individual candidates.

Here's the results:

Re: Dutch Ruppersberger (3.00 / 1)

Dutch is my Rep. and would be an great general election candidate.  Unbeatable, in my opinion.  He comes from the biggest swing county in Maryland politics, Baltimore County.  He would win Baltimore County comfortably and do very well in the Big 3 (MoCo, PG Co., and Balt. City) insuring victory.  His troubles would occur in the primary.

What are the odd's of us keeping his house seat if runs for senate?

Re: Dutch Ruppersberger (3.00 / 1)

I worked on Dutch's campaign and was amazed at how down-to-earth and personable he was (unlike my old boss, KKT). Don't forget too that he represents most of Anne Arundel County (or at least the part I lived in), another swing county. The only obstacle to him winning I think would be his relative newness to big politics (he was a county executive for a while, but he doesn't have the kind of organization of a Hoyer or Cummings). Still, I would love to see him run.

Re: Kweisi Mfume (none / 0)

I like him, but he might be too liberal for a lot of suburban swing voters. Democrats have to do at least reasonably well to win statewide, and the NAACP gets a bad rap outside of Montgomery County and Baltimore City. The best thing to be if you want to win in Maryland is a union Democra (remember, arguably the most popular politician in the state is W. D. Schaeffer, and this was one of the states George Wallace won in the 72 primary campaign). Still, if Mfume gets the nomination, I'll volunteer for him.
