Don Siegelman for VP?

I don't know much about Don Siegelman, but there are a couple reasons that he might be a good selection as a VP candidate.

Siegelman would force the media to discuss the corruption of the Justice Department under Bush (and with Congressional Republicans playing an enabling, if not supporting role).

And Siegelman would insulate the ticket against Rovian attacks. Any time the GOP started a smear effort the media would be asking themselves, "Are we going to ruin this guy's life again?" before circulating the smear.

The obvious assets are that Siegelman is a governor and from the South.

Poblano/Nate had a discussion of the possibility that McCain would select Romney as his VP. If McCain picks Romney, and a segment of the GOP leadership likes the choice, that means that evangelicals in the South will be more "in play".

The Obama campaign is targetting Southern states and John Edwards seems to have taken himself out of consideration.

Is Seigelman a viable choice for VP?

Isn't he, you know, a convicted felon?  I don't think his record was expunged, he was just released on procedural irregularities.

Don't get me wrong, I find it highly plausable that Rove put the hit out on him, but the guy still has a lot of work to do in clearing any suspicion, and Obama doesn't need that drama.

If he wins, Obama can give him a government appointee position commeasurate with his abilities.  That's about as far as I'd like to go with it.

Great idea.

But if not for this job, then maybe Attorney General or Supreme Court? Nah, probably too old for the Court. Anyway, I want to see Anita Hill up there on the bench with the guys, as in "Clarence Thomas, This Is Your Life!"

Um, no. What exactly do you think the Republicans would do if we put forward the Scary Black Muslim/Convicted Felon 08 ticket?

He's stilla  convicted felon. That doesnt' mean he literally can't run for or hold office, but practically speaking, it does.
