Do we need such racial slurs during the convention?

From the Chicago Sun Times - http://www.suntimes.com/news/elections/1 124667,CST-NWS-dem25.article

Last night, I was called an 'Uncle Tom' by Emil Jones in the lobby of the hotel, right in front of [Ald.] Freddrenna Lyle and [Ald.] Leslie Hairston and [Ald.] Latasha Thomas," said Cobb, a member of Clinton's Illinois Steering Committee. "I walked over to him and asked him, 'What did you just call me?' "

Cobb has been a high-profile Clinton supporter, and she said she is still paying the price in the African-American community.

"If people are still making digs at the Hillary Clinton people because we supported her, that is not going to bring us on board. It makes us feel as though we're outsiders, and we're Democrats," Cobb said. "The litmus test for being black is [seen as] supporting Barack."

Emil Jones denies it. The 2 witnesses however say that he did say it, but in jest.

No (none / 0)

We don't need it.

Stop painting the rest of us (none / 0)

with your broad brush.  That slur is an isolated incident at best.  That is far different than someone threatening to compete in a primary against someone because of their support of a Presidential candidate, which is a legimate form of political competition.

"hoodlum"

Great word!!! I often run around town screaming that at "the blacks", as I call them.

Re: No (2.00 / 1)

Are you seriously going to complain about one Black (possibly) calling another an Uncle Tom, and then turn around and call someone a hoodlum yourself?  Could you possibly be any more hypocritical?

Of course not (2.00 / 1)

I don't believe inadequate black man is the worst Obama is being called right now.

an Illinois pol went against Obama (none / 0)

and wants to not suffer consequences!?

Even before I got into politics, I had heard the quote, "Don't make no waves, don't back no losers."

Emil Jones says and does dumb stuff. But methinks Cobb doth complain too much.

People who campaign against Richard Daley aren't welcomed back into the fold. It's the Chicago way. "Politics ain't beanbag."

Re: an Illinois pol went against Obama (none / 0)

I would point out to you that Carl Nyberg is not the Democratic candidate for president, nor is he even on the ticket.

Re: an Illinois pol went against Obama (none / 0)

What's your point?

Chicago politics should change 180 degrees because Obama got the nomination?

How's that make sense?

Re: Do we need such racial slurs (none / 0)

It would be very wise to avoid making jokes of that sort....  Or any sort... about Hillary, Bill, Obama, or Michelle.   Or about whether someone is a racist, sexist, homophobe, elitist, ageist, or an Uncle Tom.

"Smile when you say that pardner" doesn't work in this day and age.

One thing we all should have learned this election season is that such jokes aren't funny, are divisive, and do nothing but cause anger, discontent, and other assorted types of foolishness.

Because they are not constructive, they should be lost until after the election.

Well, I certainly hope this didn't happen, which maybe it didn't.

poor gaf. (2.00 / 2)

This guy is a bullshit artist.  I told a story like this a couple months ago of words that had been directed at me for being a woman who supported Obama.

gaf goes: "Did you cry?"  So take it with a grain of salt.

This sounds too much like (2.00 / 1)

something I believe you posted before....

Smells trollish...

Emil Jones is a loud-mouth (none / 0)

I come from Illinois. Emil is just plain loud-mouth. Infact the whole Dem party leadership here is a bunch of fools and corrupt politicians. It is best to ignore them.
